Incredible Times
April 2, 2020, 12:15 PM

We are living through incredible times. Things we took for granted just a month ago have been at the least, temporarily taken from us. You and I are having to adjust to confinement, isolation, and uncertainty. How are you doing with that?

Our situation reminds me of the apostle Paul who also experienced confinement, isolation, and uncertainty as a Roman prisoner. And yet, writing his letter to the Philippian church, he says, “I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I find myself” (4:11). How are contentment, joy, and gratitude possible in difficult circumstances? Look again at the verse Paul wrote—do you see that key word? Learned. Contentment wasn’t something that came automatic for Paul. It’s not something that comes naturally for you or me either. We have to learn it. How? This is possible through Christ who strengthens us. We know that the Lord is sovereign, wise, and loving. We have the confidence that God is in control and that He is orchestrating everything for good. We understand and trust in God’s character, which gives a unique perspective into our circumstances. We direct our minds to remember and think about these things (4:8). As you do so, may these blessings be yours, experiencing the contentment, joy, and fruitfulness that your Father wants you to have in this time.
