Network News - August 17, 2018

To be a member church of SRBN, each church agrees to four requirements:
  1. Pray for the work of the network (association)
  2. Give at least $250 annually to the network (association)
  3. Give your people to work in the network (association)
  4. Complete and return the Annual Church Profile Report each year
In addition, when each church applied, they signed a "Statement of Basic Doctrinal Beliefs"
Is your church compliant?
Why is compliance important? For several reasons, but here are a few:
As an SRBN member church,
  1. You have access to resources through our office such as the Block Party Trailer, materials, advice regarding church polity, our conference room, guidance/training for pastor search committees, etc.
  2. A confidential place for pastors to share and seek counsel.
  3. Workshops such as the Annual Adult Conference, Small Group Leadership Training, LEAD Conference, VBS Training, Annual Women's Retreat and Conference, etc.
  4. The right to send messengers to the Annual Celebration to vote on decisions concerning SRBN and area missions.
  5. You are featured on the SRBN website so those seeking a church in their area can find you easily.
  6. Churches cooperating together can accomplish more than churches working alone.
  7. SRBN does not receive regular financial support from the State. The majority of our operating funds come from church contributions.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call our office at 916-863-5426.

We have 88 churches registered as members of SRBN
We are working with 2 new church plants
We have 1 established church discussing joining SRBN
40 churches are currently giving regularly to support SRBN
9 churches have given less than $250 this year but have given at least once
39 have not given anything
33 churches completed their ACP (Annual Church Profile)

Please plan to send messengers to the Annual Celebration business meeting. Here are the rules:
Messengers from the churches. Each church in the Association having fifty resident members or less may send their pastor and four other messengers plus one messenger for each additional fifty resident members or the fraction thereof, provided that no church shall have more than fifteen messengers. Messengers shall be members in good standing of the churches they represent.

AB 2943 UPDATE from California Family Council
URGENT UPDATE: With shameful 25-11 vote, CA Senators just attacked counselors, pastors, and people of faith as frauds.

AB 2943 is the radical bill from Assemblymember Evan Low and the LGBT Legislative Caucus. With this vote, elected leaders told churches and those with biblical beliefs about gender and sexual orientation that advocating for their views could get them sued.
AB 2943 bans counseling, conferences, and even resources advocating the historic Christian theology of gender and sexual orientation.

Our CEO Jonathan Keller gave this statement to the media:
The State of California has no right to shut down counselors, schools, and religious organizations who provide resources and services. Every person experiencing unwanted same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria must be allowed to pursue help in achieving their desired goals and outcomes.

The implications of AB 2943 are staggering, and spread far beyond merely regulating licensed therapists. Legal experts confirm that by targeting financial transactions, AB 2943 threatens religious non-profits, churches, and pastors who provide paid resources to help people practice their faith.
The bill still needs to pass a concurrence vote in the Assembly before going to Governor Brown's desk for his signature.
The next few days will determine the fate of AB 2943.
Please visit our Action Center to contact your Assemblymember and Governor Brown.
Stand with us for freedom of speech and religious liberty for all in the Golden State. And if possible, please consider a special contribution to CFC as we fight for your values in Sacramento.
Together, let's remind legislators the First Amendment still applies to California!
