During these turbulent times, I have heard from pastors, other association directors, and our state convention director. One of the common themes is how to navigate the many challenges we face – the covid epidemic, racial issues, financial needs, reopening our churches, and more. So many thoughts and feelings can swirl through your heart and mind like a whirlpool and can be overwhelming.

In Psalm 55 David expresses his feelings of being overwhelmed with anxiety and fear. In his distress, David feels paralyzed mentally and emotionally.

Have you heard it said that the Lord will not give you more than you can handle? That is not true. Scripture testifies that the Lord will indeed give you more than you can handle, so that you will rely on the Lord. This is what David does, giving this wise counsel: “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never allow the righteous to be shaken” (verse 22).

What a tremendous promise God has given us! David goes to the right place with his feelings, confident that the Lord will hear his prayers and uphold him in the challenges he is facing. May that be your confidence as well.

Looking forward,

Pastor Ron Prosise
