Seizing the Opportunities God Has Given Us
March 27, 2020, 10:58 AM

This morning I received a phone call from the former Army Chief of Chaplains whom I served with in Iraq.  It struck me that, just like then, this is a time of great potential if we have the faith to seize the opportunities that God has given us.  Life and ministry look very different and will continue to do so – someone has said that this is not the crisis, this is only the calm before the storm.  In Ephesians 5:16 the apostle tells us to make the most of every opportunity.   We need to change the way we think to take advantage of this unique situation the Lord is leading us through.

Our churches are doing just that by live-streaming Sunday worship services.  If your church does not have that capability, here are churches that you can join this Sunday:

9:00am, El Camino Baptist Church,

9:00am, First Baptist Church of Orangevale,

9:00am, Colfax Baptist Church, 11:00am,

10:00am, 14th Avenue Baptist Church,

10:30am, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Elk Grove,

10:30am, First Street Community Church, Lincoln, http://FSCC.Online.Church

10:45am, First Baptist Church of Fair Oaks,

11:00, Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Lincoln,

4:30pm, Grace River City Church,

No live streaming, but posting: Signal Heights Baptist Church,

Daily devotionals:

Capital City Baptist Church of Elk Grove

(If there are any other churches that stream services, please let us know!)

I got an email today from one of our pastors who has an idea for Easter—to have a drive-in worship service, preaching from a portable sound system in the parking lot.

Another church has distributed cards in their neighborhood with this message:

Hello! If you are self-isolating, our church can help.

Let us know what you need:

• Picking up groceries • Urgent supplies

• A friendly phone call • Prayer

• Anything else?

(One neighbor who received this card wrote back, “Hi there, my family received your card offering help in our mail box.  I just wanted to say thank you for doing this for our community.  Lately, I have lost my faith in God but this was a nice reminder that he is still there.”)

Another idea for ministry is volunteering with Meals on Wheels America to bring meals to seniors in need (

There are so many opportunities Christ has given us to be His ambassadors!  May the Lord give us wisdom, faith, and love to shine like lights in the world (Philippians 2:15-16).
